Malt Extract Agar is used for the isolation, cultivation, and maintenance of yeasts and molds. Formulation is similar to Malt Extract Broth with the addition of agar and glycerol. This broth medium was recommended by Thom and Church for the cultivation of fungi. Its low acidity inhibits the growth of most bacteria. The high carbohydrate content enhances the rapid growth of fungi and yeasts.

Dissolve 33.6 grams in 1 liter of distilled water. Sterilize by autoclaving for 15 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • Maltose: 12.75 g/L
  • Dextrin: 2.75 g/L
  • Glycerol: 2.35 g/L
  • Peptone: 0.78 g/L
  • Agar: 15.0 g/L
  • Final pH (25°C): 4.6 ± 0.2

Research or further manufacturing use only, not for food or drug use.

  • DCM Appearance: Homogeneous with soft lumps, free flowing, light beige
  • PPM Appearance: Trace to moderate haze, off white to pale yellow
  • pH(3.36% Solution @ 25 oC: 4.5 - 4.9
  • Microorganism (Aspergillus niger ATCC 16404): Growth
  • Microorganism (Candida albicans ATCC 10231): Growth
  • Microorganism (Penicillium Roquefortii ATCC 10110): Growth
  • Microorganism (Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 9763): Growth

  • Microorganisms (Microsporum Canis ATCC 36299): Growth
