RWD Osmotic Pumps

With competitive prices, RWD miniature infusion pumps are designed for precise and continuous long-term dosing in mice and rats, durations for up to 6 weeks, which relieves researchers who are burdened by multiple injections.

Osmotic Pumps can be implanted subcutaneously or intraperitoneally for systemic administration or connected to a catheter to provide targeted delivery for blood vessels, brain, spinal cord, lung, liver, or other specific areas of infusion.

The Osmotic Pump consists of a robust semi-permeable membrane that allows animals’ fluids to pass through. Built-in high-pressure salt interlayer absorbs animal fluids, causing them to expand and squeeze the drug storage capsule. The liquid stored in the capsule can be delivered to specific tissue areas continuously and accurately at a constant rate.

The pump can be implanted directly into the peritoneal cavity or the back of the neck to deliver the drug. The pump rate is stable through in-vivo testing.

*Made of biocompatible material to avoid immune rejection after implantation in rats and mice. Each pump is also sterilized by irradiation to ensure no inflammatory reaction in mice and rats.

Applications include cardiovascular disease model, addiction research, emotion-based research, medication research for diabetes and other metabolic diseases, pain, injury, and other therapeutic drug infusions, and cancer drug screening.

  • Predictable dosing minimizes experimental variables to ensure reproducible and consistent results.
  • Reduces the stress response by continuous administration without frequent animal handling. Ensures experimental results and animal welfare is guaranteed.
  • Wide application, easy to operate. Reduces the need for regular injections at night and on weekends.

RWD Small Animal Anesthesia System

The RWD Multi-Function Animal Anesthesia Solution is a fully integrated inhalation anesthesia platform designed for safe, precise, and efficient small animal research. Equipped with an advanced gas recovery system, the setup minimizes operator exposure to anesthetic waste gases while ensuring reliable anesthetic delivery for a wide range of experimental and surgical procedures.

This versatile system supports multiple research applications, including cerebral and myocardial ischemia models, osteoporosis studies, tail vein injection, arterial and cardiac blood sampling, ventricular injection, tissue/organ removal, and other small animal surgery workflows. By simply switching between anesthesia machines, masks, and induction chambers, researchers can tailor the system to meet specific protocol needs.

Why Isoflurane Inhalation is the Gold Standard

Isoflurane inhalation anesthesia provides multiple research advantages:

  • Fast induction and rapid recovery: animals reach surgical depth in ~1 minute and recover in under 1 minute
  • Minimal physiological interference: over 98% eliminated via respiration; ideal for long-term studies
  • Real-time control of anesthesia depth/duration
  • Reduced stress and better welfare, no pre-restraint required
  • Neuroprotective and cardioprotective benefits reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury
  • Non-flammable and non-explosive, it’s safe for lab environments

Main Attributes

  • Research-grade vaporizer individually tested and CE-certified
  • Oxygen flush button (up to 10 L/min), tested for 100,000 activations
  • Durable channel switch tested for 100,000 cycles
  • Safety lock to prevent accidental activation
  • Compact footprint and intuitive, out-of-the-box operation

Quietek™ Euthanasia System

The Quietek™ is a carbon dioxide delivery system that has been specifically designed for use with laboratory mice and rats. It’s simple interface allows the user to focus on the task at hand rather than monitoring a flow meter and controlling carbon dioxide flow manually. Once the Quietek has been installed and set, a keylock feature prevents the settings from being modified. This ensures that euthanasia is performed humanely, ethically, consistently, and in keeping with your organization’s policies (which should include consulting the AVMA Guidelines for US institutions).

  • If your research requires alternate or specific flow rates, we can likely customize the instrument to meet your needs.
  • No animals were harmed or euthanized for the main purpose of developing or testing this product.
  • The AVMA has not certified this product.
  • Made in the U.S.A.

Product Advantages

Compliant
The Quietek is programmed to operate only within flow rates allowed by the AVMA for a given cage or chamber volume. The cage or chamber volumes can be programmed by designated staff and then locked to prevent changes. This ensures that CO2 is delivered ethically, consistently, and according to your organization’s policies every time.

The AVMA recommendations were improved upon in 2020. The most notable change regarding CO2 euthanasia of laboratory rodents is that the recommended flow rate has been increased from 10 – 30% chamber volume / minute to 30 – 70% chamber volume / minute. The Quietek has been modified to meet these newer recommendations. Additionally, previous versions of the Quietek (designed for 2013 recommendations) can be modified to accurately meet the new chamber volume and flow rate guidelines.

Easy
Once the Quietek has been installed and set up, a simple push of the “Start” button begins the flow of CO2. If the need arises, the run can be aborted by pressing the button a second time. Otherwise, the carbon dioxide flow will shut off automatically when a sufficient volume has been delivered to the cage / chamber. A countdown timer indicates how long it will be until the flow will be shut off.

Economical
While CO2 is generally inexpensive, when the time and labor associated with ordering and changing tanks is added in, it can be. Since the Quietek is optimized to automatically shut off the flow after a sufficient amount of CO2 has been delivered, annual use can be significantly reduced. Feedback from our customers has praised the automatic shut-off indicating significant reduction in cost and interruptions to the workflow due to valves left open by staff performing the task manually.

Humane
The euthanasia process should be monitored continuously to ensure a humane endpoint. Since the flow of carbon dioxide is automatic, this allows the user to focus on the animals rather than a timer.

Quietek Calibration

Calibration service will ensure that your Quietek instrument is working the way it should. The calibration service includes evaluation of the device, repair of any systems required to bring the instrument up to full working order, and calibration of the flow rate to ensure it meets the AVMA recommendations.
